Great sushi and cooked dishes! We are fairly frequent customers of Bonsai, and have found the food and service to be uniformly excellent. It's not a big place, so getting a table can be a challenge at peak times, but they have the best sushi I have tasted in the D.C. area.
Servers are very friendly and helpful, often bringing appetizers on the house if you have been there a couple of times. Especially recommended: spicy crispy shrimp, anything with eel, and the Bonsai Salad.

One thing is certain: The key ingredient for good sushi is freshness. Bonsai meets that standard. This small, (it seats only 50, including tables and sushi barstools) charming restaurant offers basic sushi fare---no fusion or other faddish approaches. The printed menu doesn’t change, but a chalkboard highlights the fresh fish of the day.
